life changing/inspiring films
Anyone care to share their experiences of seeing life changing/really inspiring films? It is a sad admission but it was star wars for me when i was 8! It turned me into a very creative person. Also, a matter of life and death really moved me. regards ivan |

Hello Ivan, Lynn and everyone. That is a good question to ask Ivan, thank's for asking it. There are so many films/movies that inspire people for many different reason's. All I can say is that after watching a lovely romantic black and white movie from the 30's or 40's (they are the greatest, in my opinion as they look so absolutely alluring and sweet), one tend's to be left with a lump in their throat, but at the same time, one is truly inspired by watching these movies. These type of movies tend to lift our spirit's and make one feel that they can make a difference in the world, because to me those movies are so uplifting, they really do lift our spirit's with their great storylines and their wonderful romance.I absolutely love them. Ivan, what a great question! There are so many films I could list, but probably one that I can think of right away is, believe it or not, Captians Courageous with Spencer Tracy and Freddy Bartholomew. I would bet that NOONE would be able to experience that film without crying. Also, Ronald Colman's A Tale of Two Cities, is truly a film that effected me immensely. Additionally, Lawrence of Arabia was transforming for me because at the time I was in Art School and it really effected my painting at the time. |

Hi i think the same regarding films from the thirties and forties, maybe they have more emotional resonance because they were the product of a less cynical time? (not that i was there!) ivan |

Hi Ivan, There are so many good movies (from the golden era) that inspire and move one that I'm afraid to answer this very interesting question. I feel like a pratical scholar when it comes to old movies and every one/thing else that relates to them that it is hard to answer; but "It's a Wonderful Life" has to be the one for me personally, I think, overall. Why? Because it shows how life would have been for the people surrounding one persons life had that person not ever existed (Jimmy Stewart's remarkable acting in this movie). And that person did not even know how dismal their lives would have been without him; he was given an insight that none of us ever have been given. He was an awesome loving, caring man (or woman, if that is one's personal case). That is more important I think that anything else. To be a loving presense in others life, even if it is one or two because that's all you have, is amazing. I can't think of another movie that affected me personally as much. |

Hi i agree about "it's a wonderful life", it is really genuine and has real charm and warmth to it, qualities you don't find in many films made today. I also think that Sunset Boulevard has a strange feeling of reality to it, it seems totally believable and as a result incredibly moving, regards ivan |
