Sunset Boulevard
I watched this superb movie two nights ago on DVD. William Holden and Gloria Swanson are perfectly cast as the two principle players in the film, especially in my opinion the often married Gloria Swanson, who I thought played the role of Norma Desmond so superbly. She won many awards in 1950/51 for her performance in the movie, as the "forgotten" silent screen star. She was nominated for the best actress Oscar in that year, but didn't win!! I think she should have won, as her performance was so mesmeric. As a young lad watching the movie on TV, I remember the film seemed to scare me in those days..........(but not as much as "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane" did). Sunset Boulevard is a remarkable story. Director Billy Wilder did the movie proud. |
