Why is it that movies today fall short of my favorite classics?
Sunset Boulevard, White Heat, Cool hand Luke. You dont even have to go back farther than the 70's (Godfather, Butch Cassidy). What happened in the movie business that has caused movies to be so mindless? Just want to hear the opinions of you guys.. |

Thanks for post. I hope other visitors to this website have their opinions to share on this subject. But I think the answer is straightforward....ie....the "ideas well" is running dry........there are hardly any new original ideas for plots or storylines these days. The "ideas" for a good movies have just about run dry. Well, that's my opinion anyway. ROBERT M. |

Audience demographics have just dramatically since the 1970s. And every major studio now belongs to a megaconglomerate. They want "proven" box-office hits. |

But not every movie released can be a box office hit!! also there are just so many "mindless" films released these day's................. ie......... all those awful "romantic comedies" that are advertised all over the place.......just too many "rubbish" film's are put out nowaday's. |

Much of what you see currently are results of marketing as well. Jot down how many times you see a certain soft drink or tennis shoe or another product flashed in front of you. Of course, it is disguised as the killer's beverage he sips as he stalks his prey. Or the hero running to save the children from the burning house...what brand of sunglasses was he wearing??? Next, movie business is a business. They will sometimes put out what they have politically invested in. The writer may have been as good friend of so-and-so. SO they try to keep the people happy who grease their palms. And lastly, there was a time when people had more pride in their work. They wrote stories and refined them because their name was on them and they wanted to be known for their skill, not just wait for the paycheck and on to the next project. They wanted something to last for all time, instead of a quick flash in a theater then be forgotten because they got their money and who cares what else happens. |

Very good word's of wisdom Silver Pen. Yes, they don't make movies now how they used to apart from the Lord of the Ring's trilogy, a masterpiece by Peter Jackson
