Hello... New to Triathlon's (help/advice?)

Hello!
I'm not entirely sure where to start, I'm 19 and from Doncaster although I'm currently at university in Cardiff.

I have tried a variety of sports over the years, I'm wanting to try participating In a Triathlon, at the moment my fitness level has dropped as I'm just coming into an exam period and don't seem to have time to do much, I like the idea of being able to have the opportunity to do three sports in one!

I'm wondering if anyone would be able to give me any information on how to go about getting started, there are many useful websites on the internet all of which can come across a bit confusing. I'm also wondering what event I should aim for? over the past year I have been in the university Rowing team and have attended weekly (two hour sessions twice a week circuit training, 2 sessions a week on the water and as many gym sessions as you can fit into your week!) When I am at home I also have a horse, so I active often.

I'm a fairly competitive person, more with myself! I've not been swimming for several years but wasn't terrible when I did go although lessons would be beneficial. I regularly ride my bike to and from Uni when late for lectures, but it is a heavy mountain bike type, as for running when fit I can quite happily go for a run for several miles (did a 12mile sponsored run just after Christmas).

I realize that the above may not make that much sense, but I've tried to give as much background as I can. I would appreciate any help or advice!
Thanks
Robert

Re: Hello... New to Triathlon's (help/advice?)

Hi Robert,

the best way to get started is to join a club, we've just formed one at pugneys country park in wakefield (not far from donny!), at a club you will find all levels of triathletes from novice to ironmen and ironwomen! but all are friendly and will be more than happy to give you advice, as you will discover triathletes just love to talk about what they do! as for a events why not try a pool swim sprint event as a tester and then if you like you can move on to a open water event. kit is the largest hurdle but if you are serious about doing multi sports company's like Total Fitness Nottingham do starter kits. bike, wetsuit, tri suit, helmet etc.... basically all you'll ever need for about £800.

have fun,

Morgan.

Re: Hello... New to Triathlon's (help/advice?)

Where would I be able to find out more information about pugneys triathlon? Also with being a student and only in the yorkshire area for 6 months of a year how much would it cost me to join a club and would it be worht it for only being there a possible 6 months. Joining a club seems as though it would help me though!

When and how often do you meet?
Thanks again
Robert
