Message:   Greetings to All my comrades in Civil War reenactment

Because we are in the midst of presidential elections, some times it is good to reflect and ponder over our past heroes and their great accomplishments.

Today February 12th is the birthday of a man that the Lord Jesus raised up to be president of our country, which was during the worst and most turbulent time our nation has ever faced. In 1860 our nation was coming apart but the Lord raise up a special man, such was President Abraham Lincoln. Mr. Lincoln was not the most popular candidate from his political party. He was not their first choice and he was not well known outside of his state. He did not have lots of money, less than the other candidates, and he even lost in previous elections which questioned his elect ability in 1860. Also, his humble and some times tattered appearance might have turned people off with him. It definitely would be a turn off by today’s standards in the midst our television imagery and political media spot-light hype.

Nevertheless, the Lord raised him up for a great purpose and a magnificent plan, which was to firmly secured the unity of our nation and bring freedom and liberty to people of African descent, after over two hundred years of bondage. Only the Lord working though a special man can do some thing like that!

Today Mr. Lincoln is regarded as one of the greatest figures in nineteenth century world history. Such was the man that the Lord Jesus Christ raised up.

Have a blessed Tuesday and February 12th in the Lord God Almighty.

Chaplain Daniel E. Hayes Jr.
54th Massachusetts Colored Infantry/116th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry
