Message:   Hi Howard, thanks for posting your experience here. Any number of things could be causing your problem. The only way to check to see if it is due to faulty insulin production is to do the blood glucose testing when you wake up (fasting), just before a meal (pre-prandial) and 2 hours after eating the meal (post-prandial) It is expected that after eating the blood sugar should be below 140mg/dl, but over 70mg.dl to avoid symptoms of the lows.

Prior to my diagnosis of diabetes, I had a year of very low blood sugars within 2 hours after eating a hi carbohydrate meal, sending me rushing to the kitchen for anything I could put into my mouth! This is due to faulty production, delayed production of insulin in response to carbohydrate load. It is being recognized more and more that this may be a precursor to full blown diabetes.

There are many people who suffer from hypoglycemia and one of the things that can be done is to eat frequent small meals throughout the day.

Hypoglycemia can be caused by many other things, including food allergies, other medication use, excess exercise without eating, dehydration, and some specific diseases. Do the testing for a number of days and let us know what you see.

Make sure that you are getting adequate magnesium, either through your diet, or with supplements or by using magnesium oil. Its been found that magnesium deficiencies play a huge role in both elevated blood sugars, and in low blood sugars too.
