Great post--what most "ostriches" won't recognize is that Lilly's marketing strategy for rDNA human insulin laid the groundwork--become the company standard--for Lilly's decades' long business model.
1. Lie, obfuscate, deny, misdirect
2. "Educate" MDs about off-label uses; provide with catchy slogans (Why would a human being want to use anything BUT human insulin?)
3. Blame (kill) the messenger; anyone who challenges the "diabetes expert known as Eli Lilly" is quack-material
4. Repeat steps 1, 2 & 3. [It worked for rDNA insulin; it worked for Prozac; it worked (until now, at least) for Zyprexa.]
