TEHRAN, Jan. 12 (ISNA)-The Swiss ambassador to Tehran as the representative of U.S. interests was summoned to Iran's foreign ministry and Iran's strong objection towards the detention of Iranian employees in a raid, which took place against the Iranian consulate building in the Kurdish city of Arbil in northern Iraq, was conveyed to him.


Iran's foreign ministry's Persian Gulf office chief stated that the detained were working through coordination with Iraq's government and local Kurd officials and that the action executed by U.S. forces were strictly against all international regulations.


"U.S. forces should immediately return the five detained individuals and amend the damages made to Iran's consulate," he said.


This official added that such actions were acknowledged as direct inference in the affairs and relations of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq and that they would only lead to more crises in Iraq, which the U.S. would be directly accused of.


Iran's foreign ministry's Persian Gulf office chief also yesterday in a meeting with the Iraqi ambassador to Tehran forwarded the Islamic Republic of Iran's strong protest towards the U.S. raid at Iran's consulate in Arbil which lead to the detention of five employees and property damage.


"We expect the Iraqi government to place hast in freeing the detained, to condemn this military raid and to not allow the U.S. to sabotage bilateral ties through such illegal and obstinate actions.

This official stressed that the responsibility of investigation this case and the release of detainees rests with Iraqi government and local Iraqi Kurdish officials, and expressed hope that by Iraqi efforts the arrested people will be freed immediately.

The Iraqi ambassador in answer while expressing his regret for this event promised to follow up the case with Iraqi officials.
