Message:   I don't really know if there is a neat little box or what that box is named, but I would say that she honestly believes in these "illnesses" and that they give some sort of meaning or purpose. As long as she's not hurting anyone with it I don't really care, but the repeated attempts to make me actively affirm her delusions end in frustration.

It sounds horrible, but I basically approach her like they say you should approach a toddler - engage when she's acting well, step away and ignore her when she steps over the line. It worked for a while, and she's genuniely pleasant to be with most of the time, but sometimes she just digs in and won't let it go. This seems to get worse over the holidays.

I don't like treating my mom like a toddler. I don't like reminding her that every test she's ever taken or forced on me has been negative. I understand that the holidays can trigger all sorts of emotions that could cause this. I wonder if it's a win-win for her. If I play along, she's validated. If I don't, it's more proof that she's misunderstood and oppressed. As long as she keeps getting something positive out of it, she'll keep doing it. How do I get it to stop?
