Message:   My sister seems to be sick constantly. Since we were children she has had many illnesses (mainly urinary symptoms) in the last year alone she has been inpatient 4 times as far as I know, all centered around kidney stones and/or infections. She has always been insecure about herself and seems to have some sort of emotional/or mental issues, I just can't figure out what it is. I have never seen anyone else who is always so sick. She is constantly on antibiotics for her infections or taking pain pills for stones or infection pain. Last weekend I got a call from her saying her doctor told her over the phone she needed to go to the ER so I drove her to our local hospital. She said she couldn't urinate and was vomiting,feverish, and extreme pain in her back and side. They hooked her up to IV and put a catheter in her bladder. The doctor came in and said she had looked up her urine test culture's from the previous month she had been to this ER and it showed several different bacterias and blood. They loaded her up with a bunch of different antibiotics and pain medicine and sent her home with the catheter still in. She now acts even sicker than before and is talking about how she will probably have to go back in hospital for a few days. I just don't understand how she can be getting worse after all the medicine they gave her. And this happens so often. Does anyone think this sounds like a factitious disorder? Is it possible for her to give herself urinary infections like this? Part of me believes she is truly ill but something just doesn't seem right. I came across this site hoping to figure this out. I would appreciate any feedback you have to offer. If she is causing this herself I am concerned that she might cause real damage to herself eventually.
