Message:   These patterns seem so entrenched at this point that I think the prognosis isn't terribly good. A behavioral approach would be to "reward" your father when he isn't complaining about his health and disregard him when he is--initially he will probably increase the complaints in an effort to reengage you, but if everyone in the family is very consistent, he will learn over time (i.e., this isn't a short-term solution) that the only way to get the attention he craves is not to be inventing physical ailments.
