Message:   When a young woman has an eating disorder it is usually a frantic attempt at trying to control their life through their body. It is also sometimes a side effect of being sexually abused as a child.

Children learn how to behave by watching their parents and it is not surprising that her children will have picked up on their mom's eating disorder. A gentle non-judgemental supportive stance with clear boundaries is the best way to support her and the children. I would also trust that the doctors taking care of the children will pick up on the source of their eating problems in short order if the mom is really as skiinny as you suggest.
