Lone Twin

I am interested in finding out if anyone has done any research or knows about the emotional impact on a surviving twin. My husband began reading a book in hospital regarding this, and I am interested in finding out more.

I have the contact details for a professor at Curtin Uni in Perth who is carrying out research for bereavement in twins and multiple families - I can give you these details or Vicki should have them - there is also a new group starting in Perth called Australian Twinless - a support group for surviving twins and their families - both of these contacts can provide you with lots of references to books on these type of subjects - again, as I will be away until next Friday, Vicki has these contact details.

Take care and lots of HUGS

Susan

Hi Lana,

As Susan has said there is a group called Australian Twinless. The email address for information is junem@upnaway.com. June has been in the US and I think she is back now.

I hope all is well today,

Vicki

Re: Lone Twin

Wow, I had twin who passed away before birth. My mum was young and doesn't really understand what happened. She describes it as being something to do with blood poisoning from the dead twin and my being smaller than the other twin.

I am only venturing into this search now, at 27, and wonder if TTTS could have been the cause of my twins death.

I might look into these links you've suggested, since I'm in Perth.

Re: Lone Twin

Hi,
My name is Robin, and I am an identical twin. My identical twin didn't survive -- she lived only a little over 1 day. I was less than 1 lb at a week old, and as much as I know that I am truly blessed to be here, there is a sense of deep loss within myself.
Even though she isn't here with me, and I know that she is guiding me through life, I have a deep loss -- a loss I can't even describe. It is as if half of myself is here. There are my ups and downs, yet there is something there for me... something so strong, as if I am not complete. I have a bit of survivor's guilt, even though I don't intend to. There is a part of me that thinks, "Why am I here and she isn't?"
There is a book that has been written, by Dr. Raymond Brandt. The book is titled "Twin Loss". You might want to look into that.
Deb, you mentioned that Twin-Twin might be the cause of your twin's death. If you were identical, it may be the cause. My identical twin and I were affected by twin-twin...
Take care.
Robin

Re: Lone Twin

Hi Lana,
I'm interested in anything (links, books, groups) etc you may find. Our surviving twin is 1 month old today and had screamed from 7.30am today - NOTHING will settle him except for me holding him. A few things in the past month have made us wonder a lot about how it has affected him now and will in the future.
Good luck
Chris
