Hi all I went with my sister-in-law today to have her ultrasound she is now 23 weeks with twin boys and the dr was concerned that there wasnt enough blood getting to bub 2 he said that he wants to do a followup ultrasound in a week instead of fortnightly so that he can monitor any changes, can it happen fast and he also asked her if she is feeling extra thirsty is that a sign or is there any signs that you feel im praying that everything will turn out good but he did say that if it worsens that he might have to start treatment but didnt say what kind, thanks deb

Re: sister-in-law

Hi Debbie,
Fingers crossed, it sounds like your sister-in-law's doctor is monitoring the condition fairly closely, and has some knowledge of TTTS (by moving ultrasounds forward etc). Your best bet if you're at all concerned is to ask your doctor (or several if you aren't satisfied with the answer)
According to the Mater Hospital (here in Brisbane), warning signs for the mother include:
- Sudden weight gain
- Tummy appears large for dates (often will appear like a term pregnancy)
- Abdominal pain and tightness
- Premature onset of contractions
I imagine the treatment would be either amnioreduction or fetal laser surgery (depending on where your SIL lives).
Good luck, I hope everything goes well.
Linda
