Our boys were diagnosed today.

My husband and I had two shockers today... 1. We are having Twins!! and 2. They they twin to twin transfusion.

We haven't really talked to our families about TTTS yet, because we don't want to worry them... but I find now that i have researched a little I feel so scared!

I don't really understand what is going on... I don't know if my babies are both safe or not... It is just a really scary situation.

When our ultrasound tech found something odd, they sent us to a specialist for another scan. At this point the doctor came in and told us a little about TTTS. He is having me come in once a week for an ultrasound to watch the babies...

Are there any positive sites that are going to keep me from being an emotional wreck? When we found out we were having twins, we were elated... and now reading that there is a possibility that I could lose one or both, I am devastated.

I am going to read through this site but I was hoping some of you would help me out.

Re: Our boys were diagnosed today.

Hi Becky. I will be praying for your boys. Have you been to http://www.tttsfoundation.org/?
They have a lot of wonderful information. I have twin girls who also suffered from TTTTS. They are going to be a year old in June. They were born at 33 wks 2 days and stayed in the hospital for 11 and 14 days. They have done very well and my pediatrician says they don't look like preemies at all.

I DID follow some of the suggestions on the site I gave you- drink ensure and boost protein shakes daily and laid on my left side for mosy of my pregnancy. I stayed home and didn't get up much.

Good luck!
Please keep us posted!

Re: Our boys were diagnosed today.

Hi,

I can remember how devastating it was to receive the news that my boys were suffering from TTTS. My immediate reaction was to surf the internet for information as I had never heard of the condition. i was enormously overwhelmed by the information that i found. take heart in the fact that TTTS is a treatable condition. With each year that goes by, more and more people are receiving the laser surgery. When successful this allows your children to develope normally. I was diagnosed at 19 weeks. at 24 weeks I recieved laser surgery after 4 amnio drains. My pregnancy went to 36 weeks and I now have two healthly, happy and developmentally normal 6 month old boys. Find a speacialist who is able to give you the treatment that you will need, which may include scans 3/4 times weekly. detecting the condition early means you are able to moniter it.
i feel for you and understand the emotional rollercoater that you must feel you are on. There are countless women who have been diagnosed with sometimes very severe TTTS who have healthly children, don't forget that.

Re: Our boys were diagnosed today.

Thanks for the support. I did find the TTTS Foundation site and I post there. (Drew's Mommy)

Luckily, we are now 25 weeks pregnant and going strong. We have had a lot of improvements.

My hubby and I went to meet Dr. DeLia and he said the surgery wasn't necessary.

We have had two amnioreductions and the babies are getting a little better each time.

Thanks again. :-)
