Milbemax wormer?

Hi all

Does anyone know if Milbemax wormer is safe for collies? My vet thought it was but I have heard some people say it is similar to Ivermectin. Does anyone know? If it isn't can anyone recommend a wormer for collies?

Thanks
Janet

Re: Milbemax wormer?

Hi Janet,

Don't know the brand you mention. We use Drontal Plus multi wormer for our Collie and it seems fine. It suits the Shelties too.

Re: Milbemax wormer?

Hi im new to this forum, im a vet nurse and i own a collie and a collie X. Recently the company who make milbemax have issued a statement saying it is unsafe to use in collie or collie mixes. Also it is strongly advised not to use milbemax and the spot on 'stronghold' at the same time in ANY breed.
hope this helps

Re: Milbemax wormer?

Hi - I'm also new to this forum. I have three smooth collies who practice obedience and agility for fun.I feel very worried by this problem of drug sensitivity in collies because my two girls are MDR/1 -/- which means there is a whole raft of drugs they are sensitive to, Ivermcectine and Milbemax being only two of many. Few vets in France where we live are clued up about this problem. My dogs could have been killed several times over by vet ignorance. In France we have a wonderful site dedicated to rough and smooth collies - www.collie-online.com - there is a long section starting on the front page dedicated to MDR/1 and on the page below is listed the dangerous drugs.
http://www.collie-online.com/colley/mdr1/mdr1_colley_1.htm sorry it's in French, but the list of drugs is the same in English or French. Hope this will save some dogs' lives. Dianne
