Agility

I have just taken on a 4 year old tri colour rough girl. I really am keen to get her doing something. As I also have a mongrel who loves to jump, I think agility would be the way forward. Is there anyone in the west sussex area who runs clubs or has some kit in their garden we can practice on (would pay of course) any help appreciated.

Re: Agility

Hi Claire,
So pleased that you want to give agility a go with your rough girl. I hope you will find it as rewarding as we do
I presonally do not know much about training clubs in your area, but I'd recommend that you visit www.agilitynet.com where you'll find masses of info on agility plus a comprehensive list of training clubs that can be sorted by location.
Good luck in your quest

Re: Agility

Been looking, and we are having no luck. Tried agilitynet and they were either to far away or when I am at work
Is there anyone out there in west sussex/kent?
I have got her walking off her lead (with lots of garlic sausage) her recall is getting there. Struggling with sit and down..and tips?

Re: Agility

Hi,Claire, keep using the sausage! For the sit stand in front of her, holding the sausage in your right hand, slowly move it forward and up over her nose towards her ears - if you don't rush she will probably go back into the sit then you release the sausage into the open beak. If it doesn't work first time don't let her have the reward, just quietly move her around using it as a lure, reward her for that then try the sit again and reward with sausage and enthusiastic praise-don't worry about using the sit command until she's really got the message which might take some time-you don't know with a secondhand dog what's happened in previous 'training'! For the down use the same slow careful technique but put the hand holding the sausage back between her front legs under her chest and don't release the food until she's down. There are no quick fixes but this is a very gentle way which won't spoil the relationship you've been building up. Good luck and enjoy!
