frightened rough Collie

I have a two year old RC, who is frightened of strangers. When out on or off lead he barks terribly and there is nothing I can do to stop him. Even if strangers approach him in a friendly manner it makes no difference, he then backs away and appears frightened and stressed. The problem seems to be getting worse. He has had a few bad experiences lately with aggressive dogs. Otherwise he is a wonderful dog!

Re: frightened rough Collie

I do sympathise with you Sara. I had a rescue dog that was the same and he used to come across as very agressive especially when he was on his lead.

In the end I used to take him everywhere with me. He came to all the dog shows 3 different training clubs a week and lots of places where there were people. I just ignored him and carried on with what I was doing, whatever his behaviour was. He is is different dog these days!

I did find a headcollar really had a calming effect on him somehow.
