Use of this Forum

Hi Everyone and Happy New Year to you all.

It seems that this forum has started to be used to discuss issues that are not specifically related to Rough or Smooth Collies. I apologise if the title of the forum has misled some of you, but as a forum run by the Rough & Smooth Collie Training Association I had hoped such confusion would not arise

As a consequence, I have renamed the forum to "The Rough & Smooth Collie Chat Forum", which hopefully clarifies the situation

Please note that the moderator(s) of the forum reserves the right to remove inappropriate posts

Re: Use of this Forum - Rough and Smooth Collies only

Paul,

I think the many banner adverts about border collies are proving misleading.

Hopefully folks will use this Forum for the Rough ('Lassie') Collies and their Smooth cousins (NOT to be confused with short-haired border collies).

Re: Re: Use of this Forum - Rough and Smooth Collies only

My dog is a rough collie crossed with something, don't know what. She has the build and length of coat as a border but colour and face of a rough. Am I to be banished from using the forum for help?!

Re: Use of this Forum

No. It sounds as though yours is a genuine Rough Collie cross.

The reason we've been a bit stricter is the number of posts from people with border collies who have raised various problems which weren't in any way Rough/Smooth Collie related.

Not only do border collies have plenty of websites of their own, but real Rough/Smooth Collie owners were getting upset that their breeds were appearing to have a whole host of problems that in fact belonged elsewhere. And it also was difficult to tell what sort of dog was being discussed.

As yours seems to be a Rough Collie cross you'll be aware that the temperament is very different from that of a border collie. How tall is yours? Rough Collie height or smaller? There is a very good Rough Collie cross who has been excellent at agility, although she is getting on a bit now.

Let us know how yours gets on.

Re: Re: Use of this Forum

Hi again, Heidi is the same height as my mother in laws pure rough collie male. She is only 8 months old now. From Dogs Trust she was handed in at 9 weeks old! She is entered NFC at Leven, but she has had a fright recently so don't know if I take her. I am entered with my Tibetan Spaniel. I am glad I can still use the forum, I will have some queries soon!

Re: Use of this Forum

Hi,Hazel,I'm entered for Leven too - please bring your baby along, I'm dying to see her! I hope she's over her fright now - what happened? I'll keep an eye open for you but you've got to promise not to laugh at what Flight tries to do in the ring because I relly don't know how she'll behave - when she's good she's very, very good but--------! She is a tricolour and Florin is a mismarked blue merle so you'll recognise us quite easily. Good luck with your Tibbie.

Heidis fright!

Hi Joan, Heidi freaked when she heard a dog barking behind a fence and tried to pull me all the way home from our walk. She then barked and tried to back away from lamp posts, bins, people, my daughter, cars, buses! Anything and everything! She then barked at every noise or movement in the house and out. I left her at home for a few days until she relaxed. I have had help from Dogs Trust behaviourist but it is taking time to get her confidence back. I took her out with mum in law and her rough and she seemed to feed off his energy and was quite normal. Out on her own she is not so confident but it is coming back. See you at Leven and don't laugh at my tibby! He works very wide!!
