I read that Eleanor's own voice is included on some of the soundtrack albums for films in which she was dubbed. Is that true? I don't think her actual voice was used in any of her films, so I'd love to hear it. Can someone tell me which songs have been released with her own voice?
Thanks!

Re: Eleanor's vocal tracks
Do you mean Eleanor Powell, Mark ??
If so, I know Ellies own voice was used on a few musical numbers, especially in her later films. She was dubbed in the earlier ones.
In the Broadway Melody of 1940 in which Ellie co-starred with Fred Astaire (fantastic movie) Ellie does sing "I Am the Captain of this Boat" - she could have sung another song in the film, but offhand I cannot remember. I'm sure Ellie does sing a song or two in Ship Ahoy and I Dood It, but it has been a while since I watched those movies. ROBERT M.

Re: Eleanor's vocal tracks
The official Eleanor Powell website links directly to this forum, so I thought this was her message board.
I actually don't think any of her films used her voice, but the owner of the eleanorpowell2007 youtube channel writes:
"She had a warm and sweet voice, don't know why the studios didn't let her sing in films, incredible because her voice was kept for every film soundtrack recording, and they show it was a good voice."
He hasn't responded to my emails, so I thought someone here might know...

Re: Eleanor's vocal tracks
Hi Mark.
If you watch the Broadway Melody of 1940, you can tell it is Ellie singing "I Am the Captain of This Boat"
as Ellies singing voice sounds very similar to her spoken voice. ROBERT M.

Re: Eleanor's vocal tracks
Thanks, Robert.
I was trying to verify if it's true that her own voice can be heard on her albums, as I was told.
I've begun a project to restore the original vocals of stars who were dubbed, and I'd love to restore Eleanor's vocals if they exist. Does anyone know if they do?
You can see the results of my attempts to restore the voices of Natalie Wood, Audrey Hepburn, Rosalind Russell, Debbie Reynolds, Ava Gardner, Leslie Caron, Juanita Hall, Cyd Charisse, Patty Duke, and Richard Beymer at my youtube channel:
