Our Annual CCF Virtual Halloween Party: "Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum"

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Justice can be brought to dead men.”

A happy, haunted Halloween to all as we pause along our journey through the Charlie Chan film series to gather within the temporarily horrific confines of our Chat Room to pay homage to that darker side of life! It’s time once again for our annual Charlie Chan Family Virtual Halloween Party! Come virtually costumed as a character – human or animal (or even inanimate!), good or evil! Come incognito, signing in as your character, awaiting that magical moment at the end of our feature when we unmask, thus revealing our true identities, some of which could be more troubling than the characters whose identities we borrowed! Yes, we shall see…!

Now, our movie will be “Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum,” one of the spookier entries in the Chan series. As we visit Dr. Cream’s Crime Museum, please don’t touch the exhibits, especially the wax figures! One never knows which one may be alive! And, please, don’t wander off! You may just disappear, never to be seen or heard from, again! And, watch that electric chair! One never knows if caretaker Willie Fern has left it on with a potentially fatal charge!

As is out new custom, we will begin arriving at 7:30 Eastern Time. Due to the nature of our party, there will be no Charlie Chan “extra” presentation. This will resume next week. HOWEVER, we WILL have a surprise short presentation (or two…or three!), which will be revealed to those arriving early! Something FUN…SPOOKY…and VINTAGE! BEWARE!!!

OUR PRESENTATION:
“Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum” (1940; Runtime: 63 minutes)

SUMMARY:
Escaped killer Steve McBirney vows to get even with Charlie Chan whose testimony was key in his conviction. Recovering from plastic surgery at an eerie wax museum run by Dr. Cream, the killer lies in wait. Chan is lured to the museum through an offer to participate in a live radio broadcast there. Fortuitously escaping a death trap, Chan, along with Number Two Son, Jimmy, investigates the murder of one of the other participants which is connected to a crime that occurred a decade before.

NOTES: According to David Robert Cellitti, the wax figure of Charlie Chan (and, perhaps we may assume that the rest of the wax figures used in the film) was made by a studio in Los Angeles called The Stubergh's, which was run by Katherine Stubergh. "The late Katherine Stubergh was my mentor. She supplied wax figures for such films as ‘House of Wax,’ ‘Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,’ ‘The Frozen Ghost,’ and many other films...including ‘Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum.’"

TIME: We begin our night of terror with arrivals, disinterments, and greetings at 7:30 EASTERN TIME. After this ample portion of ghoulish encounters and dialogue, we shift our attention to our featured movie. At exactly 8:15, as the aged clock chimes, we roll our featured movie: “Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum.”

LOCATION: Our Charlie Chan Family Chat Room, which is accessed at http://www.charliechan.info/id17.html.

IF YOU LACK A COPY OF OUR FILM: Often our features can be found available online. Happily, our feature IS presently available online at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ztg5wAf0Wo

PLEASE have an enjoyable Monday, and, then, as the sun sets and the creatures of the night begin to prowl, let’s gather as we slink into our scream-filled Chat room…shall we…?

Sincerely and Horrifically Yours,

Rush Gl(ick)
