TONIGHT: Happy Birthday J. Carrol Naish, with "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan"

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Strange, is it not, how wishes can sometimes turn into reality.”

Greetings on this Martin Luther King holiday as we continue along our Charlie Chan Film Tour 2017!

First, I must apologize for last week naming the incorrect film for tonight! This evening we will be celebrating the birthday of the “Fourth Charlie Chan,” J. Carrol Naish, as we watch two episodes of “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan,” the TV crime drama from 1957. So, tonight we will be sharing “Your Money or Your Wife,” and “Blind Man’s Bluff,” two of the first entries in this series.

As is our custom, we begin arriving at 7:30 Eastern Time, we will be sharing, before our featured presentation, an “extra.”

OUR PRESENTATIONS:
1. “The Landini Murder Case” (part 11) radio program (Runtime: 14:31)
2. “Your Money or Your Wife” (1957; Runtime: 26 minutes); “Blind Man’s Bluff” (1957; Runtime 26 minutes)

EPISODE SUMMARIES:
”Your Money or Your Wife” - Mr. “Kramer, a wealthy resident of a Malibu beach community, calls on Charlie Chan to learn who is trying to kill him. Soon, Chan discovers that Kramer's wife, Marsha, is missing and a ransom note that is left behind.

”Blind Man’s Bluff” - At Los Angeles International Airport, Charlie Chan and son Barry are witnesses as a blind man is killed and his seeing-eye dog badly injured. Chan quickly realizes that this case is far more complex than it appears.

NOTES: “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan” was a combined American/British production. The first five episodes (of 39 total) were shot in and based in the United States, mainly in the Los Angeles area. J. Carrol Naish, noted for his many appearances in movies and radio in multi-ethnic roles, was chosen as Charlie Chan. He was soon joined by the young actor James Hong who played Number One Son, Barry Chan.

TIME: We begin with arrivals and greetings at 7:30 EASTERN TIME. Then, we share our “extra,” which will be followed at exactly 8:15 when we roll our featured presentations from “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan.”

Re: TONIGHT: Happy Birthday J. Carrol Naish, with "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan"

I actually saw J. Carroll Naish as Sitting Bull in the movie, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN. He was so convincing, I didn't realize it was him until I looked up the film at IMDB sometime later. He is best known today as Prince Daka, the villain of the first BATMAN serial from 1943.
