Thai week: "Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum"

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Suspicion is only toy of fools.”

THIS WEEK Charlie Chan, while in New York City, honoring a promise made by Number Two son, Jimmy, visits a very mysterious and quirky wax museum run by the enigmatic Dr. Cream to participate in a live radio broadcast. However, a death during the program changes everyone’s plans and offers a number of suspects. This proves to be one of the most dangerous of the detective’s cases as death…and revenge...stalk the wax museum!

As is our custom, we begin arriving at 7:30 Eastern Time, we will be sharing, before our featured presentation, an “extra” in the form of a vintage Charlie Chan continuing radio drama! Following our “extra,” we will collectively run our feature at 8:15!

OUR PRESENTATIONS:
1.“The Landini Murder Case” (part 33) radio program (June 25, 1936; Runtime: 14:55)
2.“Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum” (1940; Runtime: 63 minutes)

FEATURE SUMMARY: Escaped killer Steve McBirney vows to get even with Charlie Chan whose testimony was key in his conviction. Recovering from plastic surgery at an eerie wax museum run by Dr. Cream, the killer lies in wait. Chan is lured to the museum through an offer to participate in a live radio broadcast there. Fortuitously escaping a death trap, Chan, along with Number Two Son, Jimmy, investigates the murder of one of the other participants which is connected to a crime that occurred a decade before.

FILM NOTES: According to David Robert Cellitti, the wax figure of Charlie Chan (and, perhaps we may assume that the rest of the wax figures used in the film) was made by a studio in Los Angeles called The Stubergh's, which was run by Katherine Stubergh. "The late Katherine Stubergh was my mentor. She supplied wax figures for such films as ‘House of Wax,’ ‘Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,’ ‘The Frozen Ghost’ and many other films...including ‘Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum.’"

TIME: We begin with arrivals and greetings at 7:30 EASTERN TIME. Then, we share our “extra,” which will be followed at exactly 8:15 (EDT) when we share our featured presentation “Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum.”

LOCATION: Our Charlie Chan Family Chat Room, which is accessed at http://www.charliechan.info/id17.html.

Mmmmm... Thai is indeed tasty, but "THIS" was the "secret word"!
