Re: Sidney Toler /Keye Luke - only film together

Hi, Lou!

you got the first part! Now, the second part relates to a LOST film! I will give a hint; perhaps a big one: The actor in question played a character who tried to kill Chan, and came very close, but fell victim to his own trap!

happy searching!

Sincerely,
Rush

OK, I submit to defeat. I will let Len solve this mystery!

"The deer should not play with the tiger," Charlie Chan Carries On, 1930, Chapter 17.

Re: Sidney Toler /Keye Luke - only film together

Wow... you've got me stumped. I put up the cast lists side by side, and can't find any overlaps...

Re: Sidney Toler /Keye Luke - only film together

Perhaps this miscreant is hidden in the guise of one Li Gung?

"Sir Frederic was asked what he considered the greatest piece of
detective work within his knowledge.

"'I can not answer that because of the important part played by chance,'
he replied. 'As I have just said, most criminal cases are solved by
varying proportions of hard work, intelligence and luck, and I am sorry I
must add that of these three, luck is the greatest by far.

(Behind That Curtain, 1928, Chapter 1, "The Man from Scotland Yard")

Re: Sidney Toler /Keye Luke - only film together

Dear Lou,

You are nearly there, yes! Li Gung, played by...?

By morning I shall be congratulating you!

Sincerely,
Rush

Re: Sidney Toler /Keye Luke - only film together

Ahhh....
I had to go DEEP into the uncredited cast list for TAOS to find him... without Lou's clue and yours I'd probably never have found him.
I leave this for you, Lou, to say in print.
Talk about your deep knowledge!... you guys are amazing.
Len

Re: Sidney Toler /Keye Luke - only film together

Len, thank your for the honor. However, as for the knowledgeable part, as Sir Fredrick Bruce said in my last post, "mostly luck!"

Of course, here we have the very same actor to have starred in the "FIRST" Mr. Wong film, "The Mysterious Mr. Wong" (1934), starring Bela Lugosi & Wallace Ford: EDWARD PEIL, SR.

T.Y.S.M. Gents. It was a fun ride! LOU

"A thousand mile journey begins with one step," (Charlie Chan, The Black Camel, 1929, Chapter 4)

Re: Sidney Toler /Keye Luke - only film together

Dear Lou,

You got it! Edward Peil, Sr., who appeared as the nefarious Li Gung in "Charlie Chan's Chance" (1932):

Good work!

Sincerely,
Rush
