Our Monday Evening Chat Movie: "The Shanghai Cobra"

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “In my business, always expect to find something wrong.”

THIS WEEK we will be viewing and sharing “The Shanghai Cobra.” Starring Sidney Toler as Charlie Chan takes on a killer who comes out of the detective’s past!

As is our custom, we begin arriving at 7:30 Eastern Time, we will be sharing, before our featured presentation, an “extra” in the form of a vintage Charlie Chan continuing radio drama! Following our “extra,” we will collectively run our feature at 8:15!

OUR PRESENTATIONS:
1.“The Baffling Murder of Colonel Willoughby,“ (part 6 [Part 5 is missing!]) radio program (1936; Runtime: 14:13)
2.“The Shanghai Cobra” (1945; Runtime: 64 minutes)

FEATURE SUMMARY: Charlie Chan is sent by the government to investigate several murders connected with a bank where a vital store of radium is kept. A number of employees of the bank have been killed by an injection of cobra venom. Chan remembers a similar case back in Shanghai in 1937, but the suspect in those murders, his face disfigured in an explosion, escaped. Number Tree Son, Tommy, and assistant Birmingham Brown help the detective as the trio places themselves in mortal danger as they track down the illusive "Cobra Killer."

FILM NOTES: The title card for this film reads: “Charlie Chan in ‘The Shanghai Cobra.’"

TIME: We begin with arrivals and greetings at 7:30 EASTERN TIME. Then, we share our “extra,” which will be followed at exactly 8:15 (EDT) when we share our featured presentation “The Shanghai Cobra.”

LOCATION: Our Charlie Chan Family Chat Room, which is accessed at http://www.charliechan.info/id17.html.

Re: Our Monday Evening Chat Movie: "The Shanghai Cobra"

Rush, reference the two emails on August 27th for the film and chat. Was that actually in error? Or were you being mischievous and just having fun with Charlie's quote:

“In my business, always expect to find something wrong.”

Thank you so much!
