Join us for our Annual CCF Virtual Halloween Party with "Charlie Chan's Secret"

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Best place for skeleton is in family closet.”

A happy, haunted Halloween to all as we pause along our journey through the Charlie Chan film series to gather within the temporarily horrific confines of our Chat Room to pay homage to that darker side of life! It’s time once again for our annual Charlie Chan Family Virtual Halloween Party! Come virtually costumed as a character – human or animal (or even inanimate!), good or evil! Come incognito, signing in as your character, awaiting that magical moment at the end of our feature when we unmask, revealing our true identities!
Our movie will be “Charlie Chan’s Secret,” featuring murder and suspects within the mysterious confines of Colby House, which, according to Baxter the Butler, is spooky, indeed! Be careful not to explore the place on your own, as we may not hear of you again!

Also, as our weekly “extra,” we will be sharing another of the cartoons from the 16-episode cartoon series from 1972 which featured KEYE LUKE as the voice of Charlie Chan, “The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan.” The episode we will be sharing is the sixth entry, “Captain Kidd’s Doubloons,” which can be found online at: http://watchcartoonsonline.eu/watch/the-amazing-chan-and-the-chan-clan-episode-7-captain-kidds-doubloons/

OUR PRESENTATIONS: “Charlie Chan’s Secret” (1936; 671 minutes) …AND “Captain Kidd’s Doubloons” (1972; 20 minutes).

FILM SUMMARY: An ocean liner sinks near Hawaii and Allen Colby, heir to the family fortune, is presumed dead. However, as his is the only body unaccounted for, Charlie Chan, who is seeking proof of Colby's demise, is not so sure. The detective, working for Henrietta Lowell, the sister of Allen's father flies to San Francisco to investigate further. The missing Colby appears at Colby House ahead of him, but is knifed by a hidden killer in the back before seeing anyone. Further events revolve around spiritualist Mrs. Lowell, her family of suspicious characters, and the spooky Colby House, where the body of Allen Colby dramatically turns up during a séance with Chan in attendance.

FILM NOTES: The working title of this film was “Charlie Chan in San Francisco.” In ‘Hollywood Reporter’ production charts, George Schneiderman is listed as photographer and Charles McNaughton as a cast member, but their participation in the final film has not been verified.

TIME: We begin with arrivals and greetings at 7:30 EASTERN TIME. Then, we share our special short “extra” which will be followed at exactly 8:15 when we roll our feature for this Monday evening, “Charlie Chan’s Secret.”

LOCATION: Our Charlie Chan Family Chat Room, which is accessed at http://www.charliechan.info/id17.html.
