Please join us for our annual CCF Virtual Halloween Party with "Charlie Chan's Secret"!

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Most fortunate gift to be able to cross bridge to dwelling place of honorable ancestors before arriving.”

THIS WEEK: We hold our Annual Charlie Chan Family Virtual Halloween Party! This is a time when we can all gather together, watch a spooky selection from the Charlie Chan film series, and come virtually costumed as any character from the series proper - good or bad, human or animal! Log-in “incognito” and join in on the spooktacular fun as we share “Charlie Chan’s Secret” starring Warner Oland!

OUR PRESENTATIONS: “Charlie Chan’s Secret” (1936; 71 minutes) AND we continue our “extra” presentation with another cartoon episode of “The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan,” starring Keye Luke, who provides the voice of Charlie Chan: “The Bronze Idol“ (1972; 20 minutes). This one is “sort of spooky….” (Unfortunately, with our online versions of our Chan Clan cartoons seen through YouTube, commercials are sometimes automatically inserted at the beginning and each 5 minutes.)

FILM SUMMARY: An ocean liner sinks near Hawaii and Allen Colby, heir to the family fortune, is presumed dead. However, as his is the only body unaccounted for, Charlie Chan, who is seeking proof of Colby's demise, is not so sure. The detective, working for Henrietta Lowell, the sister of Allen's father flies to San Francisco to investigate further. The missing Colby appears at Colby House ahead of him, but is knifed by a hidden killer in the back before seeing anyone. Further events revolve around spiritualist Mrs. Lowell, her family of suspicious characters, and the spooky Colby House, where the body of Allen Colby dramatically turns up during a séance with Chan in attendance.

FILM NOTES: The working title of this film was “Charlie Chan in San Francisco.” In ‘Hollywood Reporter’ production charts, George Schneiderman is listed as photographer and Charles McNaughton as a cast member, but their participation in the final film has not been verified. However, Charles McNaughton is pictured in what appears to be butler's garb in a publicity still for “Charlie Chan's Secret.” The actor's name is absent from the credits on the still while Herbert Mundin, who played Baxter the butler, is among those listed.

TIME: We begin with arrivals and greetings at 7:30 EASTERN TIME. Then, we share our special short “extra” which will be followed at exactly 8:15 when we roll our spooky, haunted, séance-filled feature for our Malevolent Monday evening, “Charlie Chan’s Secret.”

LOCATION: Our Charlie Chan Family Chat Room, which is accessed at http://www.charliechan.info/id17.html.

IF YOU LACK A COPY OF OUR FILM: Often our features can be found available online, and, happily, this week’s feature IS available for viewing at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SocX9O7q7oA

(Unfortunately, with our online versions of our films and Chan Clan cartoons, commercials might be automatically inserted throughout.)

OUR MONTHLY POLL: Please take a moment to cast your vote in our October 2018 Poll, located at our Entrance Page (http://www.charliechan.info/index.html)!

NEXT WEEK: Please join us on Monday, November 28, as we celebrate the annual running of the famous Melbourne Cup horse race, with our MELBOURNE CUP NIGHT 2018. For many years now the Melbourne Cup has provided us an evening of fun and a very real-time connection with Charlie Chan and Number One Son, Lee, as they take part in a very real way in the intrigue and life threatening dangers present amidst the darker side of the Sport of Kings! As we watch our film for this week, “Charlie Chan at the Race Track,” we will be drawing at random the numbers of each of the 24 horses taking part in the actual race. Each person in attendance will receive at least one, probably two numbers. As the results of the race in Melbourne come in later, we will know who holds the “winning ticket.” The person holding the winning number will receive a commemorative 1936 U.S. silver half-dollar, honoring Charlie Chan’s 50-cent bet placed on Avalanche as seen in our movie!

SO, PLEASE JOIN US (in virtual garb!) for our HAUNTED Monday Evening Chat and Film Viewing as we share murder, séances, a very spooky environment, celebrate Halloween, and watch “Charlie Chan’s Secret.” Sounds like FUN? You’re RIGHT!

Sincerely,

Rush Glick
