OUR CCF MONDAY EVENING CHAT AND FILM VIEWING FOR June 28:

“Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum”

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Man with ear to keyhole betray excessive curiosity.”

GREETINGS! This week, rounding out the month od June, we join Charlie Chan and son, Jimmy, aboard an old, possibly haunted, sailing ship that was soon to be bound for a search for treasure…before murder changed the plans!

OUR CHAT ROOM: Our Chat Room can be accessed the same way that we accessed by going to our “Chat Room” link at charliechan.info, or use this direct link: http://www.charliechan.info/id17.html

THIS WEEK’S PRESENTATION: “Dead Men Tell” (1941; 61 minutes); along with our “extra,” a Charlie Chan radio mystery, “The Landini Murder Case: Ryder’s Cover-up”. (1936; 15 minutes).

FEATURE INTRODUCTION: The lure of millions of dollars in lost pirate treasure brings together an unusual and diverse group of fortune hunters aboard an old sailing ship, including Jimmy Chan, who sneaks aboard. Patience Nodbury, who holds the treasure map, torn in four pieces, dies suddenly, the apparent victim of the ghost of a long-dead pirate. Charlie Chan, on board the docked ship to locate his wayward son now finds himself in the midst of a case of what he believes to be murder.

FEATURE NOTES: According to ‘Hollywood Reporter’ news items, Jean Rogers was to have appeared in this film as Laura Thursday, but was replaced after shooting began by Katherine Aldridge when she became ill with the flu. ‘Hollywood Reporter’ production charts include Faye Helm in the cast, but her participation in the completed film has not been confirmed.

THIS WEEK’S TERM: lace-piece - A hairpiece using lace allowing a more natural-looking toupee. The use of a strip of lace just at the front gives the appearance of a natural hairline.

Charles Thursday: "You idiot, that's a lace-piece, a toupee."

THIS WEEK’S IMAGE: Jimmy Chan tells his Pop that the wax figure in the jail cell display was positioned differently before. The two holes seen at the left edge of this still indicate it to be a keybook still. Keybook stills are stills kept in books by the studio for use of reference.
