Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Hi, Rush! I've never been to Iowa, but I'm hoping you're enjoying your new home there. I've been checking out your library and have noticed that two books by Scott V. Palmer are not listed. One is about Charlie Chan films, and the other is about the TV show from the 1950s. I have neither purchased nor read either book.

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Dear Thomas,

Thank you for the kind thoughts! We are steadily settling in, and everything goes well.

Yes, I have seen those books that you mention, and I am not sure exactly what to think. They appear to be information about each film or TV drama, depending on the book. The images from the Chan adventures, from what I can tell, are possibly pulled from the Internet. I also suspect that the synopses contained may have come from our own site or others, but I am far from certain on that! This has happened with our Charlie Chan Sunday Comics and our "lost" Chan film scripts in the past. Also, the author, or "author," has released a flurry of similar books within a year, and that looks very odd to me! If we could see a few sample pages from these books we would know for sure.

None of the material contained within our site is copyrighted, and that can lead to "unauthorized" use. It has always been the intention of this site to freely allow people to learn about Charlie Chan and his world. Often, the world beyond his world is a somewhat harsher place!

Take care...thank you, again!

Sincerely,
Rush

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Rush, I should have known that you stay on top of these things. I'm always looking for new Charlie Chan reading material and wish that Earl Derr Biggers had lived long enough to write more than six Chan novels.

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Thomas, I ordered something like this once (not sure though if it was by this author), but when I got it, right upfront it stated:

"This is a collection of information from Wikipedia and the author claimed no rights to the information."

Again, I can't claim it was by Mr. Palmer, but I looked through it and immediately kicked myself in the pants: then threw it in the garbage. In hindsight, I should have saved it to warn others. a lot of plagiarism online these days.

I have a Chan blog you might find interesting: https://thepostmanonholiday.com/. It's been running 3 years and growing. And if you like it, you can sign up for my once-a-month blogs. I also post a weekly Charlie Chan (sound) aphorism each Sunday.

"Thank you so much"
Lou

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Thanks, Lou. I actually already subscribe to your monthly blog, which I enjoy.

Thomas, to mirror your own words (to Rush,) "I should have known you were on top of these things." TXS, Lou

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Dear Thomas,

Regarding your thought on if Earl Derr Biggers had lived on to write further Charlie Chan adventures, I agree! Would that Biggers had been alive to gift us with more Charlie Chan mysteries! It would be fun to imagine where his next Chan adventure would have taken the detective. As "Keeper of the Keys" took Charlie Chan to Lake Tahoe and its surrounding area, including Reno, who knows if his next story might have taken place at another, more distant exotic location!

Sincerely,
Rush

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Dear Rush,

I guess I'm looking at this all wrong. Compared to other fictional detectives, such as Sherlock Holmes, the number of Charlie Chan books, appears to be very few. However, we're fortunate that Earl Derr Biggers chose to write about Charlie more than just once. Still, I realize there are a few other Chan mysteries written by other authors, but I selfishly wish there were even more. Thank goodness there have been numerous movies featuring this amazing sleuth! I continue to hope that at least one of the lost films will turn up for us fans to enjoy.

Sincerely,
Thomas S. Inge

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Oops, sorry to have submitted my above thoughts twice!

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Thomas, I've done that a time or two, and I believe Rush can delete one of them for you.

Hmmm, interesting to think about where a 7th Chan Book would have taken us? Set's see:

1. House…Honolulu
2. Parrot…California Desert
3. Curtain…San Francisco
4. Camel…Honolulu
5. Carries on…slow boat Honolulu to San Francisco (for Charlie's part anyway)
6. Keys…Lake Tahoe and Reno

I'm guessing if "Biggers" had written another novel, it would have brought Charlie back home to Honolulu to solve another mystery. Reason I say that is the audience he was writing to at the time. The Pacific Islands were a topical romantic location, far away and unknown to most except through books. The "Hawaii Calls, radio broadcasts from Waikiki Beach to radio stations on the mainland, didn't begin until 1935. So Biggers novels were the first taste of Paradise for most.

Now, as for where one would "like" to have seen another Chan adventure. I'd like to have see him in Europe. Perhaps traveling on the orient express. One can dream, yes!

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Lou, possibly that would make a good poll question: If there had been another book in the series by Mr. Biggers, what location for the murder would the readers have preferred most? I can't say I would have been too picky. Any place with Charlie would have been fine with me, but Honolulu is a wonderful city.

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Thomas, I agree...that is a great Poll question!

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Lou, you rival Tarneverro in mind-reading ability!

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Lou, I agree. It would seem logical that Biggers would probably return Chan to his tropical home for his next case. After that...maybe indeed to Europe...and the Orient Express would have been a REAL treat! (Hmmm...perhaps some seeds for thought regarding a future group-formulated Charlie Chan adventure script?)

Sincerely,
Rush

Re: Books by Scott V. Palmer listed on Amazon

Rush, true true. Charlie need to be Euro-bound!

BTW I found the Key to The City of Honolulu, that Biggers was sent to his home in Pasadena, CA (Ref your "Study" item under Biggers: http://www.charliechan.info/id304.html)

Well...I'm embellishing a bit. Not the Actual Key, but a picture of it and some news articles. Will send your way today or tomorrow.

Thank you so much
Lou

First and foremost, research the tutor you intend to hire. Also, if you want to read some cheap essay writing service reviews, go to nanofun-poly.org. This low cost essay writing service can assist college students with the following projects. Of course, getting a suggestion from your friends is ideal, but if that isn't possible, look at the rating.
