OUR CCF MONDAY EVENING CHAT AND FILM VIEWING FOR November 15 “Mr. Wong, Detective”

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Fingerprints very valuable if detective can catch owner of fingers.” (“Charlie Chan’s Secret”)

OUR CONTINUING SAGA… As we inch toward new support for our Charlie Chan Family Home, for the foreseeable near future, our present site will be our home, and modest changes and additions will continue to be made until the new site is officially opened. Even then, the “old” site will remain available for not-yet-transferred material.

AND…GREETINGS! Our film for this week’s CCF Group Chat will be “Mr. Wong, Detective,” starring Boris Karloff as detective James Lee Wong in the story that provided the basis for last week’s movie, “Docks of New Orleans.” Let’s see if we can pick out the similarities as well as the differences between the two pictures!

OUR CHAT ROOM: Our Chat Room can be accessed the same way that we accessed by going to our “Chat Room” link at charliechan.info, or use this direct link: http://www.charliechan.info/id17.html

THIS WEEK’S PRESENTATION: “Mr. Wong, Detective” (1948; 68 minutes); along with our “extra,” a Charlie Chan radio drama: “The Eye of Buddha” (Part 2)” (15 minutes).

FEATURE INTRODUCTION: When a chemical manufacturer is killed after asking detective James Wong to help him, Wong investigates this and two subsequent murders. He uncovers an international spy ring hoping to steal the formula for a poison gas being developed by the first victim's company. (IMDb)

FEATURE NOTES: “Mr. Wong, Detective,” from 1938, is the first film of the Mr. Wong film series. It provided the plot for the Charlie Chan movie, “Docks of New Orleans” (1948).
