CHARLIE CHAN COMICS

I enjoy the Charlie Chan comics that come out every Sunday. In fact I save them. I have a question about the one that is dated 022242. It seems to be out of sequence. There appears to be a comic missing between 021542 and this one. Comic 021542 ends with Craig discussing a "plan" with an old gentleman who seems to be confined to his bed. Comic 022242 starts with Charlie and Kirk reviving Merry Lee after she had fainted. She tells of Charlie's son Lee going with Craig to kidnap Dr. Hartzell. There seems to be a comic strip missing which would have Craig telling Lee that if he did not help her kidnap Dr. Hartzell, she would harm Merry Lee. Maybe the writer figured the reader could fill in the gaps. Comments?
This is not a complaint but an observation. I appreciate Rush putting them up on the site every Sunday.

Thanks for the comics,Rush

Re: CHARLIE CHAN COMICS

Dear Jack,

Thank you. I am very happy to see that you enjoy our weekly Charlie Chan Sunday comics.

As with the comics that we find in our papers today, the story lines presented each Sunday in the Charlie Chan comics were extended through the rest of the week through the "dailies." Usually, the story was simply "dragged out" between Sundays. However, on occasion, the daily comics contained information that, if not read, would lead to the feeling of there having been a "gap" between the Sunday comics. Such is the case with the comics you mention. It would be wonderful to have ALL Charlie Chan newspaper comics ever published, including the dailies, at our disposal for presentation here. However, such a dream will certainly remain just that - a dream.

Just rounding up all of the Sunday comics is daunting to the extreme as can be noted by the many "reproductions" that we have had to use of late. I attribute the dearth of available Chan Sunday comics, and probably dailies as well, to the paper drives carried out during the years of World War II. The current gap of actual examples will not be closed until, I believe, early May! Until then, I appreciate and thank you for your patience...

Sincerely,
Rush

Re: CHARLIE CHAN COMICS

I would also like to thank Rush for the Sunday comic feature.

On a related note, an excellent supplement to Rush's Sunday comic feature is available in the form of published reprints of the Andriola strips (dailies and Sundays) from 10/30/38 to 3/20/40. Honorable wife has presented humble self with these reprints over my last several birthdays :)

Originally published by the the Pacific Comics Club they can be obtained from www.kenpiercebooks.com

The latest flyer they sent me indicates that all 3 books can now be had as a package deal for $20 total. (I believe they were originally $10 per book). You might have to call him to get the deal since I think it's an unadvertised special. 414-529-3056 from 5pm - 9pm central weekdays. Saturday from 1 to 5.
