The July 27th edition of THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER announces "Dan McDermott has been tapped to pen an updated version of 'Charlie Chan' for 20th Century Fox". The article goes on to say this is the long gestating version with Lucy Liu playing Chan's grand daughter. The project has had numerous screen writers, including the team that wrote X2: X-MEN UNITED. According to McDermott, "It's a reinvention of the franchise that credibly passes on the baton to Lucy Liu as the lead character and lead of the franchise." He went on to say "Tonally, we are in the world of THE BOURNE IDENTITY and THE DA VINCI CODE - Those kinds of movies."
As Charlie (Winters) would say... "So much, for so much".
Thank you for the information. Who knows where this movie, should it, indeed, be made, will lead us? Consensus among Charlie Chan fans will probably be heavily weighted toward the negative, but, we shall see what we shall see...
