Chan's Clan - books vs films...

Have just been reading THE BLACK CAMEL and noted several of Charlie's offspring are mentioned. However, none of them match (even by name) those found in the film.

Anyone here familiar with the other books enough to note if any of Charlie's literary clan ever shows up in the cinema family?

Of some interest to me is that in this book Charlies kids are much closer to the Toler presentation. That is slightly rowdy and "modern". Yet Mrs. Chan in the books is more like Oland's version.

Thanks.

Re: Chan's Clan - books vs films...

Dear Cannon,

"The Black Camel" is probably my favorite of the Giggers Chan stories. Although the names of the Chan offspring do not really match the names of those in the films, they are consistantly referred to throughout the books. You have probably noted that the Chan's number one son was referred to as Henry in the Biggers books. This was also the name used for this son who appeared briefly in Charlie Chan Carries On." In "Charlie Chan's Greatest Case, this eldest son was called Oswald! Byt the time Keye Luke appears in "Charle Chan in Paris, Charlie Chan's first son is called Lee.

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
