Has anybody bought the Chan DVD collection from thevintagetheatre.com? I bought a DVD set once from ebay and the quality was so bad in some of the movies that you literally couldn't see the characters' faces (or bodies) in some scenes because the film was so dark and yellowed, and in some films, the "hiss" was louder than the dialogue! I'm not looking for perfect sound and picture quality; just movies that are watchable. Is thevintagetheatre.com's DVD set Ok to buy?

Re: thevintagetheatre.com

Dear Isaac,

I personally have not heard any complaintd regarding the seller in question. If they sell on eBay, you mat wish to see their buyer comments. Otherwise, you could email your concerns to them, and, if they are worth their salt, you will probably receive some sort of reasuring comment from them.

From personal experience, I can tell you that Old Time Radio, U.K., one of the sellers for whom we carry a link here, carries a "complete" Charlie Chan DVD set (minus the films available on the Chanthology set issued last summer by MGM Home Entertainment) that is worth the asking price. In this set, there is only one film, "Shadows Over Chinatown," that I would consider fair quality at best. the remainder is very good to better, in my view.

Hopefully, this has offered at least a hint of some help in your search...

Sincerely,
Rush Glick

fyi, vintagetheatre and vintageplayhouse, both one in the are selling the same movies as oldtimeradiouk, they copied them and are selling them, the funny thing is once the box set came out, oldtime stopped selling the six, but vintage is still selling the six included in the box set, which is very questionable.

Re: thevintagetheatre.com

I don't know anything about thevintagetheatre.com. I bought mine from Old Time Radio UK. I'm perfectly satisfied with my CDs. I'm sure Rush will agree with me that they sell good quality. He also has a set of them and says he likes them fine. I think you can find their address on this website. If not, I'm sure Rush or Virginia can give it to you.

Hope this helps
Jack

Here is the address of Old Time Radio, U.K.:

Andy, the owner, is a pleasure to work with, and he sends out his product - from England - quickly...and for FREE!

Re: Re: Re: thevintagetheatre.com

Thanks alot for the information. There are so many websites that sell Charlie Chan DVD collections, it's hard to tell which ones sell good products. Especially when the prices for the box sets range from $75 to $250, and every website claims to be selling "high quality, digitally remastered DVDs"!

Re: Re: Re: Re: thevintagetheatre.com

Dear Isaac,

You are correct about there being a good number of sellers "out there" all seeming to claim essentially the same thing, with wildly varying prices! This is why it is hoped that people will let us know about how they feel when they purchase something from someone. I have a feel in that the highest-priced seller's may not differ hugely from that of a lower-priced vender, especially if one's only desire is to obtain Charlie Chan films for one's personal enjoyment.

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
