Curious how Fox will release future films - in groups of 4 and 3 perhaps? Vol 2 might include "Secret", "Circus", "Race Track" and "Opera", and Vol 3 the remaining 3 Olands that Fox owns and are not considered lost - "Olympics", "Broadway" and "Monte Carlo". Assume the Fox Toler Chans might follow in similar fashion, so that we end up with 6 box sets in total. Of course I'm sure much depends on how sales of Vol 1 pan out. But if sales of Vol 1 meets or exceeds Fox's expectations, they have an opportunity to at least make up for the expense they incurred by re-mastering these films a few years ago.
I for one appreciate your tenacity in helping to make this happen - it sounds like they're listening.
I know this is not about the box sets, but after it was so long before we got the Chan DVD's, wouldn't it be nice to have the studio look for the right actor and put the Chan film(s) back into production also? We can dream, we can dream!
Evidently you know how to contact FOX pr firm. Could you ask them if they know if the box(es) will be available in region-2 versions too? Your help in this would be greatly appreciated.
Hello, first time poster here. Like all of you, I love Charlie Chan, and want to build up a library of Chan dvds. I own the Chanthology, and am on the look out for more titles on disc. I noticed two collections of CC dvds offered by Vintage Playhouse and Vintage Theatre.
Has anyone on the boards purchased these sets? Are there any reports, good or otherwise, about the supplier?
Those are bootlegs. Reports at other message boards have generally been negative regarding their quality (not surprising considering 3 or 4 movies are put on a disc). Fox is also in the process of having them shut down for copyright infringement.
The good news is that Vol 1 of Fox's series of Chan releases is coming June 20. If fans want to see all the Chans and the Motos get released, the legal versions have to sell well. Early reports offered by posters at another Chan board indicated that Fox was looking to release at least 4 DVDs every quarter which should indicate a "fast track" approach to getting these out.
I'm really looking to Volumes 2 and 3 which should have my favorite Oland films included.
