Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan at Treasure Island"

Our Monday Evening Chat and Film Viewing movie will be “Charlie Chan at Treasure Island,” starring Sidney Toler as we continue our journey through a month of “spooky” Charlie Chan movies! What is behind the mysterious deaths that revolve around the enigmatic psychic, Dr. Zodiac? Let’s watch as Charlie Chan and Number Two Son, Jimmy, seek to uncover the true identity of the mysterious killer! We can also share our thoughts on why this film is always at the top of the favorite list of Chan fans.

We begin, as usual, at 8:00 p.m., EASTERN time with arrivals and greetings and a trip to Virginia’s virtual beverage cart. Then, thirty minutes later, we begin running our personal copies of this very worthy film, which allows us to watch it together as our evening’s discussion progresses.

Our Chat Room is located RIGHT HERE at our Charlie Chan Family Home. Please use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us.

Even if you do not happen to have a copy of our featured movie, please do join us, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table.

Let’s get together for another fun evening as we watch “Charlie Chan at Treasure Island”…

Sincerely,
Rush Glick

Re: Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan at Treasure Island"

Dear Rush: At Treasure Island is one of my favorites. Ceasar Romero as Rahdini is great. The whole magic debunking plotline and blackmail racket is classic. Unfortunately, yesterday as I was attempting taking the DVD out of the case the thing cracked. Can we hope for an offical release of it anytime soon or must I look to replacing on the gray market? With it went In Reno and City in Darkness. It was a very sad day.

Ah, I envision the day (hopefully in the near future) when we can all pull out a copy of any Charlie Chan film on official legit DVD when the Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewings here at THE CHARLIE CHAN FAMILY. And when all legit DVD's are available, we will see the grey market Chans disappear! I can't wait! IT WILL HAPPEN ONE DAY SOON! When that day will be, I don't know? :)

Dear Sam,

Agreed.

Re: Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan at Treasure Island"

Dear Russell,

You're in luck. All the titles you are now lacking should be on Vol 4 which should be forthcoming from Fox before too long (no date has been set so probably early '08).

Sorry to hear about your broken DVD-R. That's another reason to be wary of some grey market product; they don't seem to be as sturdy as commercial DVDs.

Steve

Good news to hear Steve. I wrote the gray market fellow I originaly got it from and he said I could replace it for $9.99 plus $5.95 for shipping and handling. I dont' know about that considering an official "clean" version will soon be available. I may just try to be patient.

Re: Re: Re: Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan at Treasure Island"

Be patient Russell! Eventually all of the Fox Chans will be released! Unfortunately, the same can't be said about the latter Monogram Chans (from RED DRAGON to SKY DRAGON). Because of Warners reputation to delivering the best looking videos, means that alot of the Monogram/Allied Artists product may never see the light of day because all there is available is subpar 16mm prints.
