An odd ad for Chan

I came across this ad for a collection of 14 dvds: “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan is a crime drama television series made in 1957. The television show starring an oriental detective created by Earl Derr Biggers and featured in a series of six novels, as well as numerous team. The lead character was an oriental detective named Chang Apana, employed as police inspector in Honolulu who handle special assignments and involved in difficult murder investigations around the world, aided by his Number(#1)son, Barry Chan (played by James Hong, an actual Asian). Chan used logic and deduction to solve crimes, he was in fact a kind of oriental Sherlock Holmes. On television shows James Hong played the modern number one son who assisted his father, although the son often got into trouble in process. The show made success from radio movies until 1950's but was not continued in 70's due to no oriental cast to play as Charlie Chan.” The case for the dvds featured a photo of Warner Oland.
