Re: Our MONDAY Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan in London"

Am guessing the subject of showing the movies on line on Mondays to facilitate discussion has probably already been discussed. Are copyright laws in effect or are the Chan flicks in eminent domain? I ask because my VCR/DVD player and PC are far distant from each other in my house. Just wonderin'?

Dear Doug,

You bring up an interesting point. All Charlie Chan films are protected by copyright and, thus, it would probably be incorrect to consider showing any over the Internet. However, the manner in which we share the viewing experience - on an individual basis - is not an issue, of course.

My DVD and VHS players are in our home and my computer is located in our detached office/library. I purchased a portable DVD player a couple years ago to solve this problem. The prices of these machines continue to, I believe, making this a possible option for yourself and others in a similar boat. Some PCs can play DVDs, too. I do not know what it would require to add this feature to a computer, though.

Sincerely,
Rush
