Dear Virginia: It sounds like you are speaking of 1959's " The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker" staring Clifton Webb, Dorothy McGuire, Charles Coburn, Ron Ely, Jill St. John and David Nelson. It was about man who had two families, one in Philadelphia and another in Harrisburg, A. It was set around the turn of the 20th century. He was of the opinion it was the right thing/modern thing to do. How he came to this conclusion is mystery even Charlie Chan couldn't solve.
