You may have noted that there is a pretty large gap of actual examples from this slice of time, surrounding the attack on Pearl Harbor. I am not certain when paper drives began to assist the war effort, but my humble guess is that multitudes of comics pages fell into recycling bins at that time.
I had not thought of the paper drive and I was a big participant in the collection.My buddie's uncle did the lobby posters for movies and I bet we gave thousands of stills to the paper drive. Who would have guessed their value.
