Re: Hollywood History

Dear Virginia,

Thank you for sharing this very interesting article. Many artists as well as scientists fled Europe and Germany during Hitler's time. Because of all of the exiles who came to this country, an enriching of the arts and sciences occurred. One result was that, after the war, New York, eclypsing Paris, became the world arts capital, which it remains to this day.

Sincerely,
Rush

Re: Re: Hollywood History

Rush,
Of course, I'm still not sure why Joseph Goebbels banned Charlie Chan at the Opera . . . unless it was because Mme. Lilli Rochelle (whom Goebbels, Hitler, etc., could look to as a shining example of Aryan Womanhood) got murdered!

They probably wouldn't care that she was an adulteress, possibly contributed to her husband being in a burning building that cost him his memory and hid her daughter to appear younger!

Re: Re: Re: Hollywood History

Virginia,

It may be because the opera "Carnival" was written by Oscar Levant, known even then as a friend of that decadent George Gershwin who wrote the music for the non-Aryan "Porgy and Bess." Levant himself wrote a lot of that verboten jazz.
