I have been blessed to get a letter from Carla Laemmle that we can now order her life story, "Among the Rugged Peaks - An Intimate Biography of Carla Laemmle," on line!
It's available for a nominal $25 (depending on where you order it) for some 222pages.
And, yes, there is a Chan Connection!
She was the girl reading aloud from a book in the coach at the beginning of Bela Lugosi's 1931 version of "Dracula" . . . and Lugosi was, of course, in the first available Chan movie with Warner Oland, "The Black Camel."
My Carla Laemmle page is the link above.
I'll be reviewing the book as soon as I can get it and read it!
