Re: Warner Oland's Birthday Movie on TCM, 10/04/09

Steve,

Thanks for the information. May I suggest that we open our Chat Room for the night/time of the movie and watch it together then? We did this before when they had a mini-marathon Charlie Chan night and it was fun!

Only wish I/we thought of it earlier, in order to better promote the evening. If we decide to do this, perhaps Rush could send out a mass e-mail, like he does for our Monday night chats?

Your thoughts?

Thanks again,
Matt

Re: Warner Oland's Birthday Movie on TCM, 10/04/09

Hi Matt and Nightwolf,

Thank you for your suggestions. I would recommend that we, the Chan Family members, record this film "Tell It To The Marines" on Sunday night. Then we talk to Rush about scheduling the film into the Monday night line-up. That way, we can watch it together as a group.

The reason behind my suggestion is because of the time zone differences across the country. Turner Classic Movies (TCM) broadcasts in real time, meaning, we all see the same movie at the exact time, but in different time zones. There is no tape delay for the West Coast and Hawaii. TCM's "Silent Sunday Nights" begins at 6:00 PM in Hawaii. California is three hours later. It's the middle of the night for folks on the East Coast and Midwest. People have to work the next day.

Out of consideration for all our members, I believe that a scheduled play-date is best. That's my two-cents. Let's hear from other members.

"A scheduled play-date"!!

I love it!

Maybe that's part of what makes Chan fans so interesting and young at yeart!

Is everybody available to record the Oland film from TCM on Sunday? Let's record it for a later family viewing. Please advise this message board. Thank you.

Re: Warner Oland's Birthday Movie on TCM, 10/04/09

Dear Steve,

Thank you for the update/reminder. After we all enjoy the movie, perhaps we should thank TCM and then begin planning for our campaign for next year.

Yes, we can record the movie and then decide whether we should include it as a Chat film in the future. My thoughts on this are that if we deviate from showing strictly Chan movies, it should be a rarity, as it could become confusing to some with time. Perhaps we could have a once-a-month Friday or Saturday evening "Non-Chan Chan Night." At that time we could share non-Chan films that featured Chan actors/actresses.

Sincerely,
Rush

Re: Warner Oland's Birthday Movie on TCM, 10/04/09

Rush,
I'm going to try to tape it but I have a small problem. . . .

I went into the hospital early Thursday morning for the same thing I went in mid-June and . . . surprise! . . . they kept me there until this morning.

Seems I'm okay today (with an oxygen level of 99%) but I have to go get another CT scan in 3 months to check the cut-glass (that's how they look) particulates in both lungs.

Doesn't that sound like fun, kiddies!

But back to good news! I do hope that this marks the first of TCM playing more Oland - and Chan - movies!

I tend to agree with Rush on this matter.

I personally think the Monday night chats should be reserved for Charlie Chan films. If there are other non-Chan films that are of interest to our group, there is no reason why we couldn't reserve another/specific night per month to view them. Heck, the chat room is at our disposal 24/7.

Just my opinion. I'd do/say anything to spend another night watching a classic film with you all!
