Tonight's Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Behind That Curtain"

We are now embarking on our latest trip through the entire Charlie Chan series! Please join us TONIGHT for our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing we watch and discuss “Behind That Curtain,” with E.L. Park as Charlie Chan (appearing at the tail end of the movie). While this is not considered by many Chan fans to be an “official” part of the Charlie Chan series, proper, still, “Behind Tat Curtain” fills a very special niche. With this picture, Fox Film took the original stories Earl Derr Biggers and sought to bring them to life on the silver screen. While they followed, in “Behind That Curtain,” the “formula” established by previous studios’ efforts of relegating Charlie Chan to a minor role, this was to change very soon, as we shall see. “Curtain,” however, offers some treats to those who view it. First, we see Boris Karloff in an early “talkie” performance. Next, Warner Baxter stars at Col. John Beetham. This 91-minute film also moves from one exotic location to another, offering a visual feast. Our movie for tonight is one to enjoy on many levels!

We begin, as usual, at 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time with arrivals and greetings and a trip to Virginia’s virtual beverage cart. Then, thirty minutes later, we begin running our personal copies of this very worthy film, which allows us to watch it together as our evening’s discussion progresses.

Our Chat Room is located HERE at our Charlie Chan Family Home. Please use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us.

Even if you do not happen to have a copy of our featured movie, please do join us, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table.

So, let’s get together for yet another fun Monday evening as we gather to watch “Behind That Curtain”!

(PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to receive weekly email announcements regarding our Monday Evening Chats, as well as receive high-quality scanned movie still images (one per week) from our films of the week, please email us at: charliechanfamily@yahoo.com)
