Re: Warner Bros to release new Charlie Chan set on June 8

I'm sure it is bare bones. But thats ok, we have been waiting so many years to get more Monograms released, I hope we dont have to wait another 8 years for the next set :(

Re: Warner Bros to release new Charlie Chan set on June 8

Yeah, I have to agree with you. Plus we are lucky to get these on pressed and authored DVD's rather than those Warner Archives DVD-R's.

Re: Warner Bros to release new Charlie Chan set on June 8

Dear Sam,

Thank you for the information! This is very good news, and wecan hope that this set will be the first "wave" of Warner Brothers Chan films to be released on DVD. My guess is that Warner decided to gor with what they had at this time and hope that better prints of some of the other movies will turn up to be a part of a later release or releases.

No, I did not know of the release date of these films, let alone if there would be any "extras" included. I would hope that, at the very least, original trailers would be a part of the package. We shall see.

Thank you again, Sam...

Sincerely,
Rush Glick

Re: Warner Bros to release new Charlie Chan set on June 8

I have realized that we are lucky to get these movies on legit DVD at all. I would be happy with prestine looking DVD's. I wonder if these were derived from 35mm prints? I have heard that nearly all of the bootlegs are derived from beaten up 16mm prints. It is about time! I have heard rumors since 2006. Now in addition to the rest of the Chan's, Warner needs to release the 1950's era Bowery Boys films!

Re: Warner Bros to release new Charlie Chan set on June 8

Hi Sam

To answer your question; These first four Warner Brothers Monogram Chan films were set to DVD from the original nitrate negatives. I have the TV Superman series on DVD also from Warners and the quality is outstanding. Everyone will be pleasently supprised when they first see these films on commercial DVD. Enjoy

Yeah I forgot to thank you for the news Sam as well. Agree love the Bowery Boys movies for Monogram as well. Say what you want about Monogram but the films have a warmth and charm that you don't find in the big studio productions, I love them

Re: Warner Bros to release new Charlie Chan set on June 8

Dear Scott,

I wholeheartedly agree with your brief assessment of Monogram Pictures' movies. They have a certain charm, I feel, that may, in part, at least, be attriuted to their being filmed on a shoestring budget. As I think is the case with too many of Hollywood's output today. It is my humble opinion that sometimes (if not all to often!) too much money leads to a lack of creativity and imagination, whereas, a lack of funds can result in the opposite.

Sincerely,

Re: Warner Bros to release new Charlie Chan set on June 8

I just pre-ordered this box set from Amazon for $27.99 with a lowest price guarantee until it ships in June. Does anyone know for sure why The Red Dragon and Shadows Over Chinatown were not included in this set?

Re: Warner Bros to release new Charlie Chan set on June 8

Hello everyone!

My first post here, and I have been meaning to post here for a little while. Doing so tonight. I am a Charlie Chan fan and I have the 3 Oland box sets along with the 2 Toler box sets and all 6 Monogram films. I have both box sets of Mr. Motto as well.

Well I was indeed shocked when I saw the news of more Charlie Chan films to be released on the Walmart website in June. I thought to come here and finally present something and I see this topic was already created.

Well I will be glad to get the set. It will be my first real exposure to Roland Winters as Chan. I started exploring around more over the time I started buying my other Chan box sets and read where both number 1 and number 2 sons were in a movie together with their "pop". What a delight came to mind. I actually like the idea of the sons being involved in the capers. They also helped to make the Charlie Chan movies what they were.

Well not to drag the topic off subject, I just want to say that I am glad to see some new Chans coming, and hopefully someone will release the other remaining Chans as well. I really would love to see the Feathered Serpent movie.
