I see it as good news/bad news:

If Lucy Liu was "ageda driven" to do it and she's no longer interested in the project . . . that might mean that she realizes that "her version" may be only interesting to those who complain about the depiction of Asian Americans in the movies.

The good deal is that as the continued sales of Charlie Chan DVDS may have put a big dent in Liu's plans, maybe this will help spur getting the rest of the Chans out on DVD.

We can hope!

I agree. Also, I concur with Steve that this is a positive, in that we will not have yet another dose of very bitter medicine of a very dubious manufacture force-fed to us. Actually, I believe that if a well made, true to Chan "tradition" had been made, that this could have actually given a boost Lucy Liu's seemingly dimming career. Sadly, however, this would take a measure of independence and courage, and, dare I add - creativity?

Indeed, burgeoning DVD sales of Charlie Chan films, as well as other much more family friendly and mind-stimulating classics speaks volumes.
