All -

Caught this on the radio, after leaving the grocery store tonight.

Enjoy.

Re: Fresh Air on NPR today

Diana,
Thanks for letting us know about this!

I have also made it available on my homepage top and center.

Those of us who remember Fox's Chan Festival in 2003 will have a feeling of deja vu but . . . the bottom line . . . they may have won that battle but we now have almost all of the available Chans on DVD!

Re: Fresh Air on NPR today

You are most welcome, Virginia. We had a "driveway moment", listening to the end of the story when we got home. I knew then, that I would have to find it online and post it for everyone here.

Re: Fresh Air on NPR today

That was most interesting, thank you! I guess I am getting tired of the "Caucasian playing an Asian is unthinkable" mantra. I am sure racism was unfortunately involved in some things, but regarding casting, isn't that why it is called ACTING? Are we going to get so politically correct that someone from Italian descent can only play an Italian in the movies, or an Irishman an Irishman...etc..? If the portrayal is convincing and respectful, I don't see a problem with it...

Re: Fresh Air on NPR today

I just realized . . . they need some fresh air period on this argument.

One of the arguments that I know I had was why just Asian Americans being played by whites?

Sessue Hayakawa was playing the Hispanic role of El Jaguar in the 1917 The Jaguar's Claws.

Should they have used a white actor or is this what we should all be aiming for even now . . . the actor who can do the job or fit the racial role?!
