The BBC- PBS Mystery is running a contemporary version of Sherlock Holmes. When I read of it a couple of months ago I was instantly suspect of such an idea. Especially since I've not been a fan of the more recent (period) portrayals of Miss Marple. Surprise! I actually found it to be quite good. I prefer a Victorian Holmes, most notably seen with Jeremy Brett as Holmes, but I find they have captured the spirit of Holmes if not the setting. Now if only someone would do this with Chan.... (Though I would prefer 1930s locales)
Re: A Modern Sherlock Holmes - A Modern Charlie Chan?
Dear Russell,
Interesting! However, I would prefer that an "updating" of Charlie Chan would be through the use of a grandson, etc., rather than a "restart" of the character in our era. Minus excessive martial arts, of course!
