This book contains one of four "Charlie Chan" stories that appeared in the short-lived Charlie Chan Mystery Magazine, four issues of which appeared between November 1973 and August 1974. These stories featured an "updated," anachronistic Charlie Chan who solved crimes in the 1970s. "The Pawns of Death" was the fourth and final story Bill Pronzini and Jeffrey M. Wallmann who wrote under the pseudonym of Robert Hart Davis.
Mystery man wrote me back about Pawns of Death. I have a photograph tho, that was taken in about 1920 of a sign outside a bookstore or movie house for Charlie Chan, "The Pawns of Death" so 1974 won't work.
So, back to my original question - was a silent movie made of it, or when was the book/story originally published? Many thanks
