Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan in Honolulu"

Please join with us for our film for this week’s Monday Evening Chat and Film Viewing, “Charlie Chan in Honolulu,” starring Sidney Toler and featuring Victor Sen Yung as Number Two Son, Jimmy. Following the untimely demise of Warner Oland, 20th Century-Fox launched a search for a new Charlie Chan. Dozens tried out for the part, but, Sidney Toler was chosen for his fresh interpretation. On December 16, 1938, “Honolulu” was previewed, appropriately enough, at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Reviews were enthusiastic, and Toler carried on the role for Fox and then Monogram Pictures for nearly ten years.

In “Charlie Chan in Honolulu,” we are treated to an intimate glimpse of the Chan family at home and later at the hospital for the birth of the Chan’s first grandchild! We learn of Jimmy Chan’s desire to follow in his Pop’s footsteps as a detective, which lands him in some hot water at one point, as the elder Chan steps in to resume a case of murder aboard a passenger freighter that has arrived in Honolulu. Amidst a collection of bizarre suspects, can THREE ( as we add young TOMMY to the mix!) Chans solve this mystery?

Our Chat Room is located HERE at our Charlie Chan Family Home. Please use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of “Charlie Chan in Honolulu” exactly 30 minutes later.

Even if you do not happen to have a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. (Many of our films may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as You Tube, etc.) Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table.

"Thank you so much," and let’s get together for yet another fun Monday evening as we gather to watch Sidney Toler in his first outing as Chan in “Charlie Chan in Honolulu.”

(PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to receive weekly email announcements regarding our Monday Evening Chats, as well as receive high-quality scanned movie still images (one per week) from our films of the week, please email us at: charliechanfamily@yahoo.com)
